Great to be back in the canoes and on the Bude Canal this year! And a huge thank you to all our paddlers for supporting us…..
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
This Christmas we are again supporting Cornwall Air Ambulance ( https://cornwallairambulancetrust.org ) who do incredible work complementing the emergency services with super fast critical care response. Essential in rural Cornwall.
Last week at the prestigious South West Tourism Awards we were awarded Gold for the Best Learning Experience in the South West. We were also awarded Highly Commended for the Best Active and Sporting Experience.
We are very proud to receive these awards and be recognised at such a high level.
Special thanks must go to the whole team at the Bude Canoe Experience, that’s Jim and Eileen (Pauls’ parents) and Sarah who assisted at the canal last season. Not to forget all our great customers who are always such fun! Thank you everyone!
After a great weekend last year Paul from the Bude Canoe Experience organised a second white water canoeing weekend in Okehampton for the OCA. 24 paddlers and 8 leaders met at Okehampton YHA for a couple of days great paddling.
Initially the levels looked low, but prayers were answered and heavy rain Saturday morning filled the rivers to perfect bouncy levels.
On Saturday we had 3 groups all paddling different rivers.
1. The Tamar from Greystone Bridge to Gunnislake (20km G2). 2. The Tavy from Tavistock to Denham Bridge (10km G2/3). 3. The Teign from Fingle Bridge to Steps Bridge (15km G2).
From the chatting going on at dinner that evening it seemed everyone had a great day with entertaining conditions!
Steady showers overnight maintained brilliant levels for Sunday when again we split into 3 groups all paddling different rivers.
1. The Barle from Tarr Steps to Dulverton (10km G2). 2. The Barle (Exe really!) play wave at Exe Bridge. 3. The Teign from Marsh Bridge to Fingle Bridge (5km G2).
Again from post paddling banter the level on the Barle was entertaining and swift. The Teign Gorge was challenging forcing a few rock spins and swims! The play wave turned out to be a bit more of a rodeo wave with paddlers opting for some on shore safety training and a cream tea!
What a great summer we have had here at the Bude Canoe Experience!
On the whole we have had fantastic weather. Lots of lovely, super enthusiastic and talented paddlers. One even managed to do a handstand in a canoe!
We had record number of lovely dogs accompanying their owners in the canoes too….so cute!
It was great to move to our new mooring in the Lower Wharf. A truly stunning location away from cars and convenient for pre and post canoeing refreshments.
The icing on the cake though was finding out that we are finalists in this years Cornwall Tourism Awards.
BUT! It’s not over yet! There is still time to come canoeing with us as we are open until the end of October.
Thank you to all our lovely customers……..here are the 2019 Summer Season Highlights!
Well we certainly think so! According to a ranking survey by Rank.com canoeing is the 5th most FUN outdoor activity you can do! Currently only beaten by camping, star gazing, hiking and swimming! Take a look at the survey and you can even take part! https://www.ranker.com/list/outdoor-activities/lisa-waugh P.S. According to the Cornwall Tourism Awards and Trip Adviser, the Bude Canoe Experience is one of the best outdoor activities you can do in Bude and indeed the South West 😉
