On this 3 hour experience you will have great time and learn amazing bushcraft skills.
Set in a beautiful hidden Devon valley with woods and babbling stream you won’t find a better location.
Bushcraft is really useful when out in the wilds, be it on a bike, in a canoe or on foot. During this 2.5 hour experience you will sample outdoor living at its best.
Unique in a number of ways:- – Fun tractor trailer ride to / from venue – Private venue nestled in the lovely Devon countryside – Based around building your own bush camp using tarps, hammocks and natural resources – Making fire and a tasty bushwhacker snack and may be the odd toasted marshmallow
Just like our canoe experiences this is a jam packed, interesting and fun activity! Time will fly and you will definitely be wanting more!
It’s not often you will see the Bude Canoe Experience boats on the canal mid winter! However, Paul made an exception for some Bideford Canoe Club training.
Together with Emily from North Devon Explorers we successfully delivered the course to 16 participants over two days.
Learning the basics of tandem canoe paddling, including rescues, will enable these paddlers to start exploring flat water environments independently and most of all safely.
Great to be back in the canoes and on the Bude Canal this year! And a huge thank you to all our paddlers for supporting us…..
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
This Christmas we are again supporting Cornwall Air Ambulance (ย https://cornwallairambulancetrust.orgย ) who do incredible work complementing the emergency services with super fast critical care response. Essential in rural Cornwall.
Great to be featured in this months Camping and Caravanning Club Magazine! Great article about things to do in North Cornwall. So looking forward to getting back on the lovely Bude Canal when circumstances allow! ๐
Like you need an excuse to come canoeing with us? It’s such fun! But, there really are some great health benefits ๐
Itโs a low impact activity. This means that even if your joints are weak paddling will help you benefit from aerobic fitness, strength building, and greater flexibility. Donโt risk wear and tear on your joints and tissues, go paddling.
Get social. It offers you the opportunity to find new friends. Many people go paddling in groups.
Even during a relaxing paddle you can burn hundreds of calories an hour paddling.
Paddling helps improve mental health and helps lower stress levels.
It helps improve core strength and stability. Some benefits of a stronger core are it helps prevent or reduce back pain, helps improve balance, and enhances mobility.
Even the most leisurely paddle will give you a good aerobic work-out.
Age is no barrier. Paddlers continue to paddle way into their 80s and beyond.
Paddling is inclusive. It offers opportunities for people with disabilities, their friends and their families.
Helps reclaim family time. Chuck the screen and get onto the water. Paddling helps unplug your kids from the internet and offers parents the chance regain some lost family time.
Last week at the prestigious South West Tourism Awards we were awarded Gold for the Best Learning Experience in the South West. We were also awarded Highly Commended for the Best Active and Sporting Experience.
We are very proud to receive these awards and be recognised at such a high level.
Special thanks must go to the whole team at the Bude Canoe Experience, that’s Jim and Eileen (Pauls’ parents) and Sarah who assisted at the canal last season. Not to forget all our great customers who are always such fun! Thank you everyone!
We are very pleased to announce that the Bude Canoe Experience has made it through to the South West England Tourism Excellence Awards. We are a finalist in the Learning Experience of the Year and Highly Commended in the Activity of the Year.
It is a great honour to be recognised at this level and we cannot wait to find out how we do at the awards ceremony at Exeter Cathedral early February.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible.
After a great weekend last year Paul from the Bude Canoe Experience organised a second white water canoeing weekend in Okehampton for the OCA. 24 paddlers and 8 leaders met at Okehampton YHA for a couple of days great paddling.
Initially the levels looked low, but prayers were answered and heavy rain Saturday morning filled the rivers to perfect bouncy levels.
On Saturday we had 3 groups all paddling different rivers.
1. The Tamar from Greystone Bridge to Gunnislake (20km G2). 2. The Tavy from Tavistock to Denham Bridge (10km G2/3). 3. The Teign from Fingle Bridge to Steps Bridge (15km G2).
From the chatting going on at dinner that evening it seemed everyone had a great day with entertaining conditions!
Steady showers overnight maintained brilliant levels for Sunday when again we split into 3 groups all paddling different rivers.
1. The Barle from Tarr Steps to Dulverton (10km G2). 2. The Barle (Exe really!) play wave at Exe Bridge. 3. The Teign from Marsh Bridge to Fingle Bridge (5km G2).
Again from post paddling banter the level on the Barle was entertaining and swift. The Teign Gorge was challenging forcing a few rock spins and swims! The play wave turned out to be a bit more of a rodeo wave with paddlers opting for some on shore safety training and a cream tea!
Last Thursday night we headed off to Truro Cathedral to attend the Cornwall Tourism Awards. Nominated in two categories we waited patiently to find out how we did.
First up was Best Active and Sporting Experience where we were awarded Silver!
Second up was Best Learning Experience where we were awarded Gold!
As you can imagine we are all over the moon to be recognised like this for the second year in a row at such a prestigious event.
A huge thank you must go to all our fantastic customers for their continued support and everyone else that has contributed behind the scenes. You are all appreciated very much.
What a great summer we have had here at the Bude Canoe Experience!
On the whole we have had fantastic weather. Lots of lovely, super enthusiastic and talented paddlers. One even managed to do a handstand in a canoe!
We had record number of lovely dogs accompanying their owners in the canoes too….so cute!
It was great to move to our new mooring in the Lower Wharf. A truly stunning location away from cars and convenient for pre and post canoeing refreshments.
The icing on the cake though was finding out that we are finalists in this years Cornwall Tourism Awards.
BUT! It’s not over yet! There is still time to come canoeing with us as we are open until the end of October.
Thank you to all our lovely customers……..here are the 2019 Summer Season Highlights!
The Bude and Stratton Heritage Festival Sunday 21st July 2019. A great day out, but why not make it even better with a Bude Canoe Experience? We paddle on the Historic Bude Canal. Learn all about the history of the canal first hand while paddling it and looking for wildlife including the endangered Water Vole.
Blimey! Is it June already? Well yes it is! That means it’s now Summer Season and we can review Spring! What an amazing Spring we have had on the lovely Bude Canal! Here are our Spring highlights! Thank you everyone! Enjoy!
We are very proud to announce that we have been awarded a Trip Adviser Certificate of Excellence for the 5th year in a row! This now means we are in the Trip Adviser Hall of Fame and are one of the very best outdoor activities listed in Bude! A huge thanks must again go to all our great customers and all those who have recommended us on Trip Adviser. Much appreciated. All reviews and recommendations are very important to us as they keep us on our toes and also help potential customers decide if a Bude Canoe Experience is for them. Thank you again everyone ๐
